Mystery Shopper Tastes Fine Dining That's Too Good to Be True for College Living

Sure you had campus food, but not like at this university. I once heard a previous president of ORU by the name of Mark Rutland say, “Welcome to the most joyful campus on the planet or in any parallel universe.”

So it is true in the realm of food also, as you can expect to experience the joy of fine dining at ORU.

An evening dining at the Hamill Center Dining Hall, located on the campus of Oral Roberts University has given me both a casual and fine dining experience. For example, upon entering the dining hall I am greeted with a friendly smile that follows a warm greeting, and if I am acquainted with any of the cashiers, it can carry over into small talk in the duration of me giving my card (but hand them it before you talk or you will forget to pay) to them to charge for an all-you-can-eat fine dining buffet.

After I have the freedom to obtain a tray, I make my way around the buffet to self-serve myself to a wide variety of about seven fresh food choices like fresh fruit and salads, home-style entrées, baked pizza and pasta, Deli choices served on baked loaves of bread, ice cream and baked desserts and homemade soups. New creations were prepared and served in the open by loving chefs, which made me feel like it was made especially for me.

At first sight, the food looks so extremely good and delicious that it makes for a hard decision on what to eat first; it left me wanting to try everything and going back for seconds. Eventually, when I do sit down I can expect to enjoy this fine dining food in a casual atmosphere that can be quiet in the mornings and talkative around lunch time.

This service comes with entertainment, with there being TVs for your eyes to watch as you eat, in which, the environment always seems to be clean and the employees carry themselves in professional attire with a servant’s heart. Nevertheless, the chef and staff are treated with such respect that when one drops a plate or glass on the floor the students all clap as a way of making them feel less embarrassed is my guess.

Once finished with my meal, I’m to take my tray with plates to a nifty conveyor belt that cycles it through to the dishwasher. I can say I left the Hamill Center Dining Hall that is located on the campus of Oral Roberts University feeling full and satisfied. Thus, their food seems too good to be experienced at a college and coming from where I’ve been in life, regardless of what’s being served I can count myself to be the most grateful to dine at a university cafeteria like this one.

“There are several options for food on campus. Our main food source is our cafeteria, which is known as Saga. We have a Chick-Fil-A, Moe’s, Hava Java, Jazzman’s, Freshens, and a few other food/drink places on campus. You won’t be too disappointed here when it comes to food. Sometimes saga isn’t the best, but most of the time they are” (qtd. Shelby from Harrison, AR on ORU’ Cappex).

You can experience the taste of the university cafeteria (called “Saga” by students) in the Hamill Student Center that’s located by campus security and the “fireside room” on the upper level. Where it proudly serves the finest food to the finest students at Oral Roberts University by going to the following website at oru.sodexomyway.com/dining-choices to check out the menu and support it by eating in their dining hall.
